As a trained massage therapist, you will have the knowledge to help prepare the mother’s body for the process of labor. This course is ideal for any massage therapist or Doula that has been working with pregnant clients and would like more in depth information on how to help their client more. Or for a massage therapist that would like to learn a therapeutic approach to prenatal massage. In our 6 hours together, we will navigate through the physical and emotional changes that happen during pregnancy and ways to adjust to our clients needs at each session (either with position adjustments, problem focused sessions, or supporting in their journey). We will also discuss how to incorporate pressure point massage in a safe but effective way to help prepare for labor. There will be discussion on how to support your client by giving them “homework” between sessions, as well. Supplies to bring: Sheets, lubricant, 3 regular size pillows (or 1 regular size and 1 body pillow), paper and pen for notes. Postpartum & Infant Massage Class: Attention to physical healing in this course is important. But more important is the long-term healing that the mother feels well-nurtured and well-taken care of in the vital first days of motherhood. Since “birthing” their baby, the mother has a whole new set of challenges, and changes both psychologically and physiologically. Postpartum period is considered 6 weeks by Western Medicine, and 4 months for Eastern Medicine. The new mother could feel changes for over 2 years. In this 6 hour day we will navigate the physical and emotional changes that occur after childbirth. The way that bodywork can support the mother and baby. Supplies to bring: Body pillow with a normal pillow, or 3 normal pillows. Sheet set and lotion or oil. 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel. A baby doll for practice.
